How to dress small cuts and grazes

Here are the step on how to dress small cuts and grazes.

Equipment needed:

Never dress a wound with cotton, wool or anything fluffy.

  • Gauze
  • Running water
  • Soap
  • Swabs
  • Dressngs
  • Adhesive band aid
  • Bandage

Steps

  • Protect the wound temporarily by covering it with a clean piece of gauze then wash hands
  • Collect required equipments and place it near by
  • Gently rinse the wound under cold running water until the wound is clean
  • Carefully clean around the wound with soap and water do not use gauze
  • Clean wound from inside out once and use a fresh swab for each stroke. Be careful not to disturb any blood clots, as bleeding may re-occur
  •  Remove any foreign matter such as glass, metal, grave and splinter
  • Dry area around the wound and apply dressing
  • If wound is small, place adhesive band aid over area. If it is a large wound apply sterile dressing or a piece of gauze.
  • Secure dressing with bandage.
  • Rest the injured part.
