Things to Know About Hospitals in Jamaica
Although Jamaica, is classified as a "Third World Country," I, on the other hand, choose to think of us as not "third world." Our hospital facilities have been a concern for many over the decade since we gained our Independence from England. But I believe we have come a far way from 50 years ago.
Hospitals in Jamaica
Jamaica has the largest Children's Hospital, which is The Bustamante Children's Hospital. It serves many of our sick children here in Jamaica and the Caribbean. There is the Kingston Public Hospital, which is the largest Trauma hospital in the Caribbean. The University Hospital of The West Indies; the largest teaching hospital in the region and the largest on the island. Not to mention The Cornwall Regional Hospital is amongst one of the oldest.
Should you venture to access any of the facilities, although they all need some kinds of upgrade; the service is in my estimation to be 75-80% care given. And this is because of the many needed equipment of a modern nature that the hospitals are seeking to get. My concern is; there needs to be more private sector assistance in ensuring we have at least most of our Class1 level hospitals here in Jamaica adequately quipped to serve the country and the wider Caribbean.
Jamaica is not short of hospitals; we only need the upgrades in bed space and equipment to be classified as amongst the best in the region.

For a tiny island like Jamaica to have so many hospitals to serve almost 3,000,000,000 people and the wider Caribbean, I believe we are doing very well.
