Jamaica Bauxite Mining Limited  (JBM) is a Government-owned Company (a Public body) with a business enterprise mandate.

JBM was incorporated on February 13, 1975.  The Company holds 51% equity on behalf of the Government of Jamaica in the bauxite operations of its current partners, New Day Aluminium (Jamaica) Limited.

Partnerships were previously held by Kaiser Jamaica Company Limited (Kaiser), then by Noranda Jamaica Bauxite Partners (formerly  St. Ann Jamaica Bauxite Partners), which had acquired Kaiser in September 2004.

JBM's operations are focused on the following activities:

  • Redevelopment of the Ocho Rios Port, in partnership with the Port Authority of Jamaica. The project aims to rebuild the Port into a multi-purpose facility that will include the attraction of additional tourists to the area, the docking of larger cruise ships, and the loading and shipping of increased limestone and sugar, among other activities;
  • Initiation of efforts to engage an investor fro the construction of an alumina refinery in Lyford;
  • Provision of support to New Day in its new role of operating the bauxite mine sin St. Ann and facilitating increase in bauxite production;
  • Improving on operations through increased sugar and limestone shipment, bunkering, and servicing of cruise vessels at the Port.

JBM remains resolute in in its efforts to contribute to the preservation of the environment by collaborating with its partners to observe responsible mining practices as well as speedy restoration of mined outlands.  In addition, JBM will promote the preparation and implementation of disaster plans so as to minimise the adverse effects of disasters.
