The study of music is a time-honored tradition that has been passed down from seasoned master to apprentice for as long as civilization has existed. After years of immersing himself in his passion, engaging in a number of teaching stints and showcasing his talent across the globe, internationally acclaimed guitarist and music veteran, Seretse Small, had a burning desire to once again share the gift of music through the medium of education. In 2013, Seretse's dream was met halfway by fellow educator and friend John Habel, and on September 30th of that same year, the doors for the Avant Academy of Music were opened. The origin of the name Avant comes from a French prefix that denotes originality, innovation and the 'employment of the latest concepts, styles or techniques'. A perfect embodiment of this, the Academy is a local 'conservatoire' that strives to provide the highest caliber of musical education to both the gifted and aspiring musician alike. Born out of the determination to create a learning environment founded on the pillars of connection and opportunity, Avant empowers its students through an individualized and personalized approach, providing comprehensive instruction in the piano, drums, guitar and voice. With a combination of one-on-one lessons, group classes, ensemble work and above all else, mentorship tailor-made to the individual's particular interests, talents and needs, we are an institution committed to not only imparting knowledge but also developing the skills of our students. The epicentre of the human experience, a catalyst for cultural evolution and the language that transcends the boundaries of colour, class and creed, music is the beacon that lights the path towards a better tomorrow. With the belief that the ability to realize one's passion is the birthright of every individual, Avant Academy aims to ensure that the pursuit of formal musical training is not only limited to a select few, but accessible to all. Through the cultivation of a close-knit community, world-class facilities and musical certification, we have made it our mission to one day transform the apprentice into masters themselves.
